February 18, 2025

TEMPE, Ariz. Sonoran University of Health Sciences is proud to introduce the Master of Science in Applied Clinical Nutrition, the first comprehensive master’s program that fulfills the complete didactic and Supervised Practice Experience requirements for the Certified Nutrition Specialist® credential.

“The launch of the MSACN program reflects Sonoran University’s commitment to advancing the field of clinical nutrition through innovation and excellence in education,” said Dr. Gena Kadar, Dean of Sonoran University’s Colleges of Nutrition and School of Mental Health. “We are proud to offer a program that not only meets but exceeds the educational and clinical training requirements for the CNS® credential“.

The MSACN program is dedicated to educating and inspiring the next generation of clinical nutritionists to provide safe, ethical, and evidence-based care. With a strong emphasis on personalized nutrition, students will develop the skills to address diverse health needs while considering nutrigenomic, socioeconomic, and cultural factors that influence health access and outcomes. The program fosters compassionate, competent professionals prepared to enhance public and individual health through integrative healthcare and personalized nutrition.

The 100% online MSACN curriculum is designed with input from leading experts in the field, ensuring students receive the most up-to-date and practical education available. Building on the foundation of the university’s existing Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition program, the MSACN expands students’ knowledge in nutritional sciences, whole food nutrition, self-care, and the responsible use of dietary supplements. In addition, the program incorporates emerging disciplines such as nutrigenomics and microbiomics, positioning graduates at the forefront of nutritional science.

A key highlight of the MSACN program is the Virtual Health Center Experience, a cutting-edge virtual training environment where students practice applying their knowledge in real-world scenarios. The program culminates in a six-month Applied Clinical Training Experience, ensuring that graduates meet the complete 1,000 hours of Supervised Practice Experience required for the CNS® credential.

Graduates of the MSACN program will be well-prepared for a career in private practice, integrative healthcare settings, community health, and corporate wellness. Additionally, the program introduces students to entrepreneurial and telehealth opportunities, and helps them leverage their expertise in the multi-billion-dollar natural foods and dietary supplement industry.

To further enhance their credentials, MSACN students have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications, including the Certificate in the Principles of Nutritional Genomics from the American Nutrition Association. These certifications provide an added advantage in the competitive field of clinical nutrition.
