Khristina Brent MA

About:

Professor Brent is a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in clinical training as a professional intended to prepare her for careers that apply scientific knowledge of psychology and deliver empirically based services to individuals, groups, and organizations.

As a psychologist in training, I have found great comfort in discovering the talent and ambition necessary to obtain personal and professional goals. Lived experience has been invaluable to me in clinical training providing knowledge, participation, and exposure required requisites in the achievement of goals. Experienced as an educator in anatomy, physiology, and neuroscience, I have found value in working with students to obtain professional and personal goals through mentorship. My experience educating students provided a pathway to pursue graduate studies in clinical psychology. My experience engaging in classroom management and student compliance and behavior intrigued me to pursue a career as a clinician. I am a proponent of professional mentorship as this is an excellent resource for career guidance and direction.

My experience as an educator in anatomy and physiology has served as resourceful in my pursuit of higher education. Thus far, it has bestowed insight into brain-behavior associations related to my clinical training. Having a greater understanding of neurological components has greatly assisted in training as I engage with children, adolescents, and adults in treating a wide range of presentations such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, major depression disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, schizoaffective, bipolar, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and trauma-related symptoms. For example, brain-behavior effects, are impacted specifically when a child has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder impacting executive function in the prefrontal cortex. Having this knowledge has furnished a deeper understanding of treatment planning which in many cases involves a multidisciplinary approach. I have enjoyed working with other professionals such as physicians, psychologists, and psychiatrists on cases to proffer evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness techniques to care.
