Love, Not Hate

– Office of the President –

May 27, 2021

Dear Sonoran Community,

It is with heavy heart that once again, I write to denounce hate crimes in America. A resurgence in anti-Semitic acts – over 153 in the past week – are but the latest in a years-long upward trend.

Anti-Semitism in the United States flies under the radar, with only the most egregious acts – for example the 2018 mass killing at a Pittsburgh synagogue – jarring the nation’s attention. Recent attacks in Los Angeles and New York City, cities with significant Jewish communities, punctured that illusion.

Recent anti-Semitic violence has been linked to ten days of war between Israel and Hamas, which killed hundreds of Palestinian civilians and dozens of Israeli civilians. Though tragic, the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians cannot justify attacks on Jews here in the United States or elsewhere.

Sonoran exists to improve the health of individuals and communities – to make the world a better place. Please be kind in your words, actions, and deeds with classmates, colleagues, and co-workers. Peace in the world starts close to home.

With Love,
