Naturopathic Medicine's Impact on the LGTBQ+ Community

The Power of Naturopathic Medicine

Your sexual orientation, gender identity or expression should not impact your ability to receive adequate healthcare. To commemorate Pride Month, we lift the voices of a few of our many students who exemplify LGTBQ+ courage and resilience.

What impact can naturopathic medicine have on the LGBTQ+ Community?

Sonoran | Spencer Warren“Naturopathic medicine can have a HUGE impact on the LGBTQ+ community. The LGBTQ+ and the BIPOC populations are some of the most underserved people in medicine. We are the leaders in natural medicine, and we also are the leaders in giving true, proper healthcare to every patient by taking the time to actually understand and learn more about their particular struggles and health challenges. This is no different in how we can give the LGBTQ+ community the healthcare they need and deserve.”

Why is it crucial to have the LGBTQ+ community involved in shaping the future of medicine?

“It’s crucial to involve the LGBTQ+ community in shaping the future of medicine.  We are people too and we want the same things as everyone else – we’re more similar than we are different. Our care, and the care of any minority group, needs to be a part of shaping the future of medicine because if it isn’t, then the future of medicine would be a lie and it would be lacking greatly. As medical professionals, we should choose to not fear the unknown, continuously educate ourselves, and treat patients to the best of our ability and without bias. This includes the LGBTQ+ community and BIPOC.”
